Pre-Race - Leg 2 - 2012 Atlantic Cup
May 18, 2012
Hello friends-
I am headed back to NYC to resume the Atlantic Cup racing after a quick trip home to see the fam and catch up on work. Today we have a skippers briefing on leg 2 from New York to Newport which starts tomorrow at 11:00am and then we will participate in a pro-am race for the media and then a cocktail party on the dock. If you are in the New York area, please join us at North Cover Marina on Manhattan's lower West side.
Leg 2 is shaping up to be an upwind affair, with the wind forecast to be from the East/Northeast, which is directly the direction we are going. Oh well - that blissful downwind sailing with 3 knots of favorable current from the gulf stream couldn't last forever!
So today Tristan and I will be going over the boat, checking everything and then doing the short sail and then focusing on weather and routing tonight. Tomorrow we will load on food, water and fuel and prepare to head to the start line near the Statue of Liberty.
We appreciate all the wonderful emails of support and will do our best to bring home the bacon for the stars and stripes.
Cheers
Joe
